Venture into Lawless Territory!
- A surge of activity across the Lawless Frontier has drawn Guardians into a chain of isolated settlements, derelict strongholds, and faction-claimed territories scattered beyond traditional Vanguard borders.
- Work with Rogue Syndicates, the Drifter, and local Frontier crews to push back roaming gangs, uncover stolen tech, and restore stability to these contested zones.
- Battle through rotating activities, Frontier events, and high-stakes challenges tied directly to the seasonal progression loop introduced in Destiny 2: Renegades.
- This destination unlocks with Renegades and serves as the primary hub for its vendor, upgrades, bounties, and weekly pursuits.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Lawless Frontier a destination? Does it have a public space?
- The Lawless Frontier is not a full destination like other destinations released in previous expansions.
- Instead of a traditional destination, the Lawless Frontier has a public social space which serves as the primary hub for the Renegades campaign, vendors and rewards.
- For its core activity gameplay loop, there are various activities that you will play through (in addition to the story) located on multiple destinations: Venus, Mars and Europa.
- For some of these activities, you will have matchmaking and scoring mechanisms similar to the Portal.
How do I earn credits in The Lawless Frontier?
- Credits can be earned from completing Jobs, Frontier Missions, Invasions, and various dynamic events that appear throughout the destination.
- Higher-tier missions reward more Credits, and your chosen Syndicate may offer weekly bonuses or modifiers that increase your payout.
- Tip: Be sure to collect any chests and destination materials from the Lawless Frontier activity destinations, as they also reward credits!
How do I pledge to a Syndicate in Renegades?
- Shortly after completing the Renegades campaigns, there will be a quest available to go to all 3 Rogue Syndicate factions, and it will ask you to pledge to a Syndicate faction of your choice.
- You can pledge to one Syndicate at a time.
- Your pledge determines your seasonal upgrades, the rewards you earn from missions, and which faction offers you Jobs during the week.
- For Destiny 1 veterans, this will feel very similar to the faction experience of old with the old city factions!
What are Renegade Destination Abilities, and how do I unlock them?
- Renegade Abilities are unique powers tied to the Frontier and the Renegades season.
- You unlock them by completing campaign milestones, earning Frontier Credits, and purchasing upgrades from your pledged Syndicate.
- Some abilities expand traversal options, while others enhance combat or open hidden paths within Frontier zones.
- You can visit Spider and your Syndicate Leader to upgrade your abilities to improve their capabilities.
- Unlocking upgrades costs credits.
The Lawless Frontier: Campaign & Tharsis Outpost
Campaign & Difficulty Modes
- New with this expansion, Renegades has two difficulty levels:
- Brave: Your standard experience with moderate difficulty.
- Legendary: Enemies are harder to defeat, and you’ll have limited revives in darkness zones.
- Completing Legendary or higher will guarantee an exotic reward at the end of the campaign.
- The higher the difficulty, the better tiered loot you’ll receive, plus rewards are more frequent.
- Difficulty scales to your fireteam size.
The Lawless Frontier
- The Lawless Frontier map serves as a main hub for campaign missions, the Tharsis Outpost Social Space, vendors and rewards for Destiny 2: Renegades.
- Throughout the launch year, it can be accessed by selecting the Destination icon via the Portal.
- Once the year is over, it may be moved into Timelines; it is unclear if Bungie will add Kepler or The Lawless Frontier to the Director (World Tab).
Tharsis Outpost
- Tharsis Outpost, located on Mars, serves as the primary social and operational hub for the Lawless Frontier in Destiny 2: Renegades.
- It’s where Guardians meet Syndicate contacts, accept Jobs, claim rewards, and access weekly Frontier challenges.
- The Outpost is where you can interact with Syndicate leaders; this allows players to pledge allegiance, purchase upgrades, and unlock additional Renegade Destination Abilities.
- Vendors rotate here based on which factions currently hold influence across the Frontier’s territories.
- Core seasonal tools, such as mission selection, Invasion tracking, and Frontier Credit exchanges, are all anchored in this location.
- The Outpost evolves week-to-week as Syndicates gain or lose ground, subtly changing NPC dialogue, map details, and available activities.
The Syndicates
- Once you’ve finished the main Renegades story, Tharsis Outpost fully opens up and you start interacting with Syndicates as a core loop.
- How pledging/alliance works:
- You can earn Reputation with all three Syndicates at the same time by:
- Completing jobs and contracts in the Lawless Frontier.
- Donating Dark Matter Ingots to their war chests.
- Once the system is unlocked, you choose an active ally by interacting with a banner inside each Syndicate’s den in the Tharsis Outpost cantina.
- Your current ally affects:
- Which Priority Contract you get each day.
- The quality of contracts (better odds of higher-tier contracts with your allied Syndicate).
- Certain bonus reputation / swap bonuses when you change alliances.
- You can earn Reputation with all three Syndicates at the same time by:
- Reputation, unlocked Renegade Abilities, Praxic Blade mods, and syndicate weapons stay unlocked even if you switch to another faction.
- You’re encouraged to eventually level all three for Triumphs, cosmetics, and better overall drops.
The Pikers (Fallen)
- Fallen biker-style gang running smuggling, protection, and smash-and-grab work in the Frontier.
- Leans into mobility, utility, and scouting – their Renegade abilities include things like Recon Shank (loot finding/scouting), Revitalize, and Piker Mortar.
- Good for players who like fast, opportunistic play and having tools that help the whole fireteam.
Totality Division (Cabal)
- Psion-led Cabal offshoot; organized, militaristic, and very results-driven.
- Focuses on raw firepower and battlefield control – Renegade abilities include Strafing Run and Imperium Drop Pod / Behemoth.
- Often recommended as the “meta” pick for burst damage and strong Praxic Blade mods.
Tharsis Reformation (Vex)
- Breakaway Vex collective with their own agenda; very into style and games of chance around Tharsis. Think “Vex in trenchcoats, gambling in the cantina.”
- Leans into ability tech and defensive tricks like Falcon, Vex Deflector, and Vex Stun Field Renegade abilities.
- Great if you like ability uptime, debuffs, and generally messing with the battlefield.
Missions & Exotic Quests
Fire and Ice
Exotic Quest
What is it?
- Fire and Ice is the Lawless Frontier exotic mission introduced in Destiny 2: Renegades.
- Completing this mission rewards the exotic sword, Praxic Blade.
- This is essentially Destiny 2’s Lightsaber, and offers significant customization options, such as different blade colours, benefits and catalysts.
How to Unlock Quest
- To unlock this quest, you’ll need to complete most of the Renegades campaign (up to Step 33).
- At this point in the campaign, Aunor will provide you a quest step to visit the Praxic template to begin your training.
- Complete the mission to unlock the Praxic Blade.
- Revisit the Fire and Ice Exotic Mission (through the Lawless Frontier destination map) to replace the mission on Legendary to unlock the catalysts.

Unlocking Renegades Destination Abiltiies
- When you start the Renegades campaign, you will be able to unlock a few of the abilities through story progression.
- For the remaining abilities, you need to pledge to one of the three Rogue Syndicates in the game to acquire them:
- Pledge to a Syndicate at the Tharsis Outpost
- Complete Jobs/Contracts while pledged to your Syndicate
- Contribute Dark Matter Ingots to your Syndicate War Chest
- Completing jobs and contributing Dark Matter Ingots will increase your Reputation Rank.
Destination Loot: Weapons & Exotics
Air-Cooled Core
Sprinting increases vent or reload speed for a short time. While at low heat or full magazine, gain increased handling and movement speed when aiming down sights.
Enhanced: Improves the handling and movement received from the origin trait bonus.
Found on any Lawless Frontier destination weapon released after Renegades.
Exotics
Oath of the Renegades: Community Event
As noted by Bungie via Social Media.
- A community-led event by the Destiny 2 Creator Community began on December 8, 2025, and runs through December 19, 2025
- Event site: https://oathoftherenegades.com
- Support your favourite creator by taking the Oath of the Renegades and logging in through Bungie.net (login button is on the top right of the event site).
- Creators act as Syndicate Lieutenants, building communities, teaming up with players, and creating shared challenges and activities.
- On scheduled creator streaming days, winning Syndicate Lieutenants and everyone pledged to them may receive rewards such as Displates, Collector’s Editions, game codes, emblems, and more.
- At the end of the event, the winning Syndicate will unlock a new emblem for the entire Destiny 2 community to use in 2026.

Dungeon: The Equilibrium
- Join forces with Aunor Mahal to hunt down the acolytes of Dredgen Bael.
- Requires Renegades DLC.
- Visit Aunor in the Tharsis Outpost before jumping into the Dungeon for the first time…she has a quest for you!
- Core Mechanics: Gathering Shadow → Shadow Novice → Shadow Apprentice → Shadow Master (Shadow “tiers” you build via Taken wells / pools found by certain enemies, such as Psions, Centurions and Incendiors)
Note: Dungeons are endgame activities. Use communication and of course – be patient!
Encounters: General Information & Mechanics

Opening Encounter
- Objective: Clear the Temple Grounds and push through the waterfall/tunnel route to reach the first arena.
- Mechanics / Watch-outs: Cabal drop pods land along the sides and can instantly kill you…don’t loiter near the edges.
- A yellow-bar Imperium show up early…burn them down to keep momentum.
- No rewards for the opening encounter.
FIRST ENCOUNTER: HARVESTER
- Objective: Defeat the Imperium forces and complete the following:
- Open six red-barrier doors by using Nameless Apprentice detonations on matching arrays/satellites.
- Build Shadow Novice to break immune shields.
- Finish by clearing remaining enemies and defeating the Behemoth Walkers, then board the ship.
- Mechanics:
- Nameless Apprentices (red, “about to explode”)
- When one is near detonation, activate the array beside the matching red door and bait the Apprentice into detonating by it; this breaks the array and opens that door.
- Building Shadow (fast method)
- Use Sparrows in the side roos to loop the short course and scoop Taken wells until Gathering Shadow upgrades into Shadow Novice (timed, ~40s).
- Using Shadow
- You can switch between your grenade ability and your Shadow ability; use the Shadow ability to break Nameless Apprentices immunity shields, then clean up the targets.
- When you see the Nameless Apprentice activate their taken bomb ability, that is when you use your Shadow ability! Remember this, as this mechanic persists throughout the dungeon.
- You can refresh the Shadow window by grabbing drops from dead Gladiators if you run dry mid-rotation.
- You can switch between your grenade ability and your Shadow ability; use the Shadow ability to break Nameless Apprentices immunity shields, then clean up the targets.
- Nameless Apprentices (red, “about to explode”)
- DPS / Damage Notes: No single “boss burn” here; your damage checks are mostly Walkers and keeping the room controlled while completing door/shadow steps.
- Tips & Tricks:
- Assign roles:
- Door team: handles Apprentice → array timing
- Shadow runner: stays on Sparrow routes to feed Shadow Novice uptime
- Keep moving! This encounter also features quite a bit of enemy density.

- Zealous Ideal (Solar Auto Rifle)
- Voltaic Shade (Arc Scout Rifle)

SECOND ENCOUNTER: HARROW, DREDGEN-APPRENTICE
- Objective: Build Shadow to Shadow Apprentice, complete a timed panel-activation route through the outer rooms, then return center to open floor traps that strip Harrow’s shield and create a DPS window. Repeat until final stand.
- Mechanics:
- Outer “U-shaped” rooms = your setup loop; wait until Imperium forces enter the main room; kill them and enter the outer area.
- Farm enemies and collect Taken wells to climb Shadow tiers up to Shadow Apprentice.
- Panel sequence (timed)
- With Shadow Apprentice, hit the glowing Taken-like panels around the rooms using the Shadow ability and keep moving; wandering usually fails the timer.
- Emergency phase
- When “Emergency subsystems activate” appears, rotate to the center quickly.
- Harrow can charge a lethal blast! Play cover when he’s winding up. If you have Praxic Blades, reflecting will usually take most of the damage.
- Boss Shield Damage Mechanic #1: Opening the holes + stripping the shield
- Shoot Arc fuses on each side to open two holes.
- Lure Harrow into the holes; each removes a chunk (~1/3) of his immune shield.
- Boss Shield Damage Mechanic #2: Generator trigger
- Activate the taken-like panels inside the room to overload Arc generators on the four corners of the main area.
- Bait Harrow to it to drain the last of the shield and start damage.
- Final stand
- Once down to his last bit of health, Harrow breaks through a door and you chase into the next area; clear Centurions and turrets while finishing the kill.
- Outer “U-shaped” rooms = your setup loop; wait until Imperium forces enter the main room; kill them and enter the outer area.
- DPS Phase: DPS starts only after the shield-drain sequence completes; save burst for that window and especially the finish.
- Tips & Tricks:
- Treat the center as “unsafe by default.” Do mechanics, then rotate out unless you must be there.
- There’s an advanced trick to speed shield removal using the Taken melee timing as Harrow exits a hole (high risk/high reward).
- When the boss’s health is near the final stand, save your supers until the final stand area.
- When he’s in final stand, do not immediately activate your supers on him! Make sure you activate the taken-like panels in the final stand area to get his shields down, and THEN attack. (Don’t be like me lol)
- Possible Rewards:
- Conspiracy Honed (Stasis Sniper)
- Bitter End (Arc Machine Gun)
- Armour drops
JUMPING PUZZLE: MALPHAS CONTEMPTUS
- Objective: Leave Harrow’s arena and cross into the next ship section
- Climb upward through the hangar/catwalk spaces until you reach the next encounter area.
- Mechanics / things to watch out for:
- Vertical route-finding: progress is usually through a higher ledge, vent opening, or gap that’s easy to miss; look up when you feel stuck!
- Clear the immediate threats first so you don’t get booped / flinched mid-jump / shot out of the sky (Psions do lurk about).
- There will be Behemoths.
- Tight catwalks & drops: lots of spots where one bad strafe = physics comedy death
FINAL ENCOUNTER: DREDGEN SERE
- Objective: Use each Lure of the Dark cycle to…
- Build Shadow to Shadow Master + kill Nameless Apprentices; eliminate 5 Nameless Apprentices to be able to shoot 5 taken orbs on the wall near the boss.
- Get pulled into the Taken/Ascendant arena, Compel the five Blistered Shadows to be able to shoot 5 taken orbs on the ascendant version of the wall near the boss.
- Trigger DPS when all 10 Taken Orbs are destroyed.
- Survive the post-DPS arena hazard and repeat until Sere falls
- ⚠️Watch for Boss/Arena Mechanics:
- Face Your Death: Every so often, Dredgen Sere will go UNLIMITED POWER on you or one of your allies, and there is no way to block that damage. When he targets you, you (and your allies) can shoot both his hands to stop him.
- He always decided to attack me for some reason, which I personally think to be a hate crime against titans…
- Tesla Coils: There are damage thresholds for this boss, indicated by a white line on the boss health bar. If your team is unable to clear the threshold, tesla coils will activate in the main arena.
- To remove the tesla coils, when Shadow Apprentice or higher, locate taken-like panels and use your shadow ability, which will deactivate a portion of the tesla coils.
- Face Your Death: Every so often, Dredgen Sere will go UNLIMITED POWER on you or one of your allies, and there is no way to block that damage. When he targets you, you (and your allies) can shoot both his hands to stop him.
- Mechanics:
- Lure of the Dark (45s setup window)
- During the timer: build Shadow to Shadow Master and kill Nameless Apprentices.
- Every time you defeat a Nameless Apprentice, a taken orb will be available to shoot.
- In the main arena, there will be 5 taken orbs to shoot.
- During the timer: build Shadow to Shadow Master and kill Nameless Apprentices.
- Taken/Ascendant arena
- With Shadow Master: walk up and kill/Compel each Blistered Shadow back in the taken arena; eliminate a total of 5 Blistered Shadows so you can shoot all 5 taken orbs in the Ascendant arena.
- Killing or Compelling a Blistered Shadow have different effects:
- Killing a Blistered Shadow during the Taken realm phase adds to the “damage check” threshold on Dredgen Sere’s health bar.
- The more Shadows you kill, the larger the damage threshold you need to meet during the subsequent DPS phase in the normal realm.
- If your team cannot clear this increased threshold, at the end of the damage phase, tesla coils will activate in the main boss area.
- To remove the tesla coils, when Shadow Apprentice or higher, locate taken-like panels and use your shadow ability, which will deactivate a portion of the tesla coils.
- Compelling the Shadows (which requires the “Shadow Master” buff obtained by taken pools) removes the Blistered Shadow without increasing the boss’s damage threshold.
- Compelling all five shadows ensures a regular, non-punishing damage phase, making the encounter much more manageable for most teams. It is the recommended strategy for a smoother run.
- Compelling will use up your entire Shadow Master buff, so you’ll need to be quick in getting the buff back.
- Killing a Blistered Shadow during the Taken realm phase adds to the “damage check” threshold on Dredgen Sere’s health bar.
- ⭐ You will notice taken-like panels throughout the Ascendant arena; use your Shadow ability on these panels to reveal taken platforms.
- Use this to reach the 5th Blistered Shadow at the top of the arena!
- Triggering DPS
- DPS begins after all 10 orbs are destroyed (5 in main arena, 5 in ascendant plane)
- You’ll damage the boss in the main arena, and you’ll have a small window to do damage.
- Rinse and repeat until the boss is defeated.
- Lure of the Dark (45s setup window)
- Tips & Tricks:
- Dredgen Sere does have a stomp mechanic…he doesn’t like to hug.
- Treat each cycle like a checklist: Get Shadow Master → Defeat Nameless Apprentices in Main Arena, Kill/Compel Blistered Shadows in Ascendant Arena → break orbs → DPS → rotate out.
- Possible Rewards:
- Heirloom (Exotic) (final-encounter reward / also a contest completion guarantee during the race window), plus remaining dungeon loot
- Full loot pool (weapons/armor): High Tyrant, Voltaic Shade, Zealous Ideal, Bitter End, Conspiracy Honed, Sullen Claw + dungeon armor set

Origin Trait – Imperial Allegiance: Being near allies grants faster cooling or charge rate, and increases damage while at high heat. For swords, grants increased charge rate and guard resistance.

- Dredgen’s Descent – Complete the dungeon on contest mode
- Stand Alone -> Complete all encounters in the dungeon without dying and leaving the activity

- Imperium Parade -> Complete all encounters in the dungeon without leaving the activity
- Praxic Drape -> Find 3 collectibles in the dungeon
- Sparrows:
- Arid Rambler (Exotic) -> Complete all encounters in the dungeon without dying as a fireteam and without leaving the activity
Praxic Blade Dark Matter Crystal
- Dark Matter Crystal can drop from full clears and is farmable!
Imperial Allegiance
Being near allies grants increased cooling or charge rate, and increased damage while at high heat or low guard energy.
Enhanced: Improves the amount of bonus received.
Found on any Equilibrium dungeon weapon.
Seal: Praxic
- Players can earn this dungeon Seal by completing various triumphs from the dungeon.
- Earning these triumphs may require a fireteam, and many triumphs require team coordination.
- Some of the triumphs offer additional rewards and improved chances of acquiring the exotic.
